Dear Fellow Democratic Committee Members;

The Allegheny County Democratic Committee By-Law Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 11th at 9:00 AM at the Northgate High School, 589 Union Avenue, Bellevue, 15202.

The doors will open at 8:30 AM.

The meeting will start at 9:00 AM or as soon thereafter as a quorum of 400 is established.  This is a meeting and not just a vote.

Please sign up HERE on the Mobilize link to let us know you will be attending.

The ACDC By-Laws Committee published a set of proposed by-law changes earlier this year.   In response to issues raised at the regional meetings, the Committee has revised the proposed by-law changes.

The final proposed by-law changes can be viewed HERE.

We are encouraging all committee members to attend on Saturday, and we respectfully request your support of the proposed changes.

It has been over 15 years since the ACDC By-Laws have been modified.

When we were elected 22 months ago, we promised to review and revise the by-laws.  The By-Law Committee has done an outstanding job in drafting a comprehensive document that updates, clarifies, and streamlines the rules governing the ACDC.

This is a good and solid document that moves us forward.

We hope to have your support and vote on Saturday.

Thank you for your consideration and your continued service.

Sam Hens-Greco, Chair                        Morgan Overton, Vice-Chair

PS:   Here are the significant proposed changes:

–    New sections are being added for Special Elections, Municipal Reapportionments, Treasurer’s responsibilities, and the Young Democrats of Allegheny County.   These sections do not exist in the current by-laws.

–    Committee membership is being expanded to include non-binary individuals as a gender option when running for committee. The top two candidates of different gender identity will be seated as committee members.

–    The new formatting makes it easier to read.  The layout has been redesigned and redundant and obsolete paragraphs have been eliminated.

–     New “Notice” requirements have been established. The current by-laws are noticeably silent on notice requirements.  The new version provides clear guidelines, especially for re-organization meetings.

–    The ACDC Endorsement is retained and made more equitable.  The plurality rule is eliminated and a majority vote will be required to win the endorsement.  Finally, guidance is being provided regarding the role and responsibilities of committees and committee members when it comes to endorsed candidates.
