Statement on the 2021 Primary Election

May 20, 2021 By Allegheny County Democratic Committee

On behalf of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee, we extend our fullest congratulations to the Successful Endorsement of Candidates, whose victories contributed to last night’s historic Primary Election results. We also wish to acknowledge the determination and commitment to public service that all those who ran for office this cycle displayed throughout their campaigns.

Our Endorsed Candidates won races across the County and Commonwealth. Judge Maria McLaughlin will be the Democratic nominee for State Supreme Court, and Allegheny County’s own Judge David Spurgeon will head our ticket for Commonwealth Court.

We are pleased to extend our best wishes to the six Democratic Committee Endorsed candidates who won nominations for the Court of Common Plea: Judge Elliot Howsie, Judge Bruce Beemer, Chelsa Wagner, Sabrina Korbel, Wrenna Watson, and Jessel Costa.

Endorsed Democrat Kevin Kraus is our nominee for County Sheriff after running a spirited campaign, and each of our candidates for County Council will be moving on to the Fall. Our newly Endorsed Candidates for Magisterial District Judge, Nick Martini, Matthew Rudzki and Jehosha Wright, were also successful.

State Representative Ed Gainey – our Committee’s choice for Mayor of the City of Pittsburgh – won a monumental victory, as the first Black candidate for Pittsburgh Mayor to be endorsed. We have known Representative Gainey since his days as Pittsburgh City Chair. His historic campaign was the embodiment of our Party’s bedrock values: empathy, equity, and inclusion.

We are deeply grateful to all the County Committee Members for their great work and wish all our Nominees well as we move together to November’s General Election.

Democratically yours,
Eileen Kelly, Chair
Honorable Pat Catena, Vice-Chair

Mills: House Republicans Playing Grinch with Budget

December 23, 2015 By Allegheny County Democratic Committee

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 23rd, 2015

Contact:
Dj Ryan, Executive Director
(412) 478-1928
dryan@alleghenydems.com

PITTSBURGH, PA — Chairwoman Nancy Patton Mills of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee is calling on House Republicans to abandon their retreat from their duties in Harrisburg after Speaker Mike Turzai sent the chamber’s members home for Christmas without passing the budget bill it has been obstructing since June 30th.

“They’re taking ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ too literally”, Mills said. “This Christmas, families across Pennsylvania continue to be plagued with worry about funding for their jobs and public services, and if their children’s schools will reopen after the New Year.”

After procedural votes yesterday, it appeared that Speaker Turzai and House Majority Leader Reed would finally allow members to vote on the budget bill long agreed to by Governor Wolf, House and Senate Democrats, and Senate Republicans. Instead, in an all-too-familiar obstructionist move, Republican leadership adjourned the House for the Holidays.

Mills hopes that House Republicans remember the end of that treasured story, where the Grinch realizes his mistake and returns cheer to those he wronged.

“House Republicans have no right to go home until this budget is passed. I join the residents of Allegheny County and the entire Commonwealth in their hopes that Speaker Turzai’s heart grows three sizes today, and he turns his car around to come back to work.”
