Devon L. Taliaferro is a native of Pittsburgh, PA currently living in the East Allegheny (Deutschtown) section of the North Side. With a background in event planning and community organizing, Devon seeks to use her natural gifts and talents to make an impact on the communities throughout the City of Pittsburgh. She is a proud alumna of Public Allies Pittsburgh 2015-2016 cohort and served with Amachi Pittsburgh during her year of AmeriCorps service with Public Allies. Devon currently serves as Program Associate with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh. She coordinates programming for the “Bigs in Blue” program, which pairs law enforcement agents in one-to-one mentoring relationships with children in the communities they serve. The program currently works with elementary children from Pittsburgh Public Schools and North Allegheny SD matched with Bigs from McCandless PD and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). She also assists with the mentor2.0 program at Brashear High School providing community enrichment opportunities for students. Working closely with the Chief Community Affairs Officer on recruitment efforts, Devon reaches adult volunteers and families to benefit from BBBS services through developing partnerships, coordinating events, and speaking on behalf of the agency.
In addition to her work at Big Brothers Big Sisters, Devon is active in the community as a volunteer and leader. She serves as Board President of Get Involved, Volunteer Course Coordinator for the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, and as a mentor to Ra’Naija (2016) and A’ona (2017). Her efforts led her to being selected in as The Incline’s Who’s Next: Community Leaders & Activists (2017), recipient of the Pittsburgh Circle of Courage in Education (2018) and The New Pittsburgh Courier Women of Excellence (2018).
