Statement on the 2021 Primary Election

May 20, 2021 By Allegheny County Democratic Committee

On behalf of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee, we extend our fullest congratulations to the Successful Endorsement of Candidates, whose victories contributed to last night’s historic Primary Election results. We also wish to acknowledge the determination and commitment to public service that all those who ran for office this cycle displayed throughout their campaigns.

Our Endorsed Candidates won races across the County and Commonwealth. Judge Maria McLaughlin will be the Democratic nominee for State Supreme Court, and Allegheny County’s own Judge David Spurgeon will head our ticket for Commonwealth Court.

We are pleased to extend our best wishes to the six Democratic Committee Endorsed candidates who won nominations for the Court of Common Plea: Judge Elliot Howsie, Judge Bruce Beemer, Chelsa Wagner, Sabrina Korbel, Wrenna Watson, and Jessel Costa.

Endorsed Democrat Kevin Kraus is our nominee for County Sheriff after running a spirited campaign, and each of our candidates for County Council will be moving on to the Fall. Our newly Endorsed Candidates for Magisterial District Judge, Nick Martini, Matthew Rudzki and Jehosha Wright, were also successful.

State Representative Ed Gainey – our Committee’s choice for Mayor of the City of Pittsburgh – won a monumental victory, as the first Black candidate for Pittsburgh Mayor to be endorsed. We have known Representative Gainey since his days as Pittsburgh City Chair. His historic campaign was the embodiment of our Party’s bedrock values: empathy, equity, and inclusion.

We are deeply grateful to all the County Committee Members for their great work and wish all our Nominees well as we move together to November’s General Election.

Democratically yours,
Eileen Kelly, Chair
Honorable Pat Catena, Vice-Chair

Allegheny County Democratic Committee Announces New Vice-Chair

December 28, 2020 By Allegheny County Democratic Committee

Dear Friends,

Please join me in welcoming the Allegheny County Democratic Committee’s new Vice-Chair, County Council President Patrick Catena!

I couldn’t be more pleased that President Catena is joining our leadership team. A strong Democrat, he brings a proven record of legislative success, a passion for community engagement, and a commitment to building our party’s future to the office of Vice-Chair.

In addition to presiding over County Council, Pat has served the residents of District 4’s 16 municipalities since 2017. A Carnegie native, he also represents his local Democrats as a regional Committeeman – firsthand experience that will be critical to the success of our mission moving forward.

I’m grateful that President Catena will continue his service to our county, and our committee, in his new and important role as Vice-Chair. I look forward to working closely with him to elect candidates up and down the ballot in 2021, and to ensuring that Allegheny County leads the way for Democrats across the Commonwealth heading into the crucial 2022 Midterms.

Welcome, Vice-Chair Catena. Let’s get to work!

In Solidarity,
Eileen Kelly, Chair
