On behalf of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee, we extend our fullest congratulations to the Successful Endorsement of Candidates, whose victories contributed to last night’s historic Primary Election results. We also wish to acknowledge the determination and commitment to public service that all those who ran for office this cycle displayed throughout their campaigns.
Our Endorsed Candidates won races across the County and Commonwealth. Judge Maria McLaughlin will be the Democratic nominee for State Supreme Court, and Allegheny County’s own Judge David Spurgeon will head our ticket for Commonwealth Court.
We are pleased to extend our best wishes to the six Democratic Committee Endorsed candidates who won nominations for the Court of Common Plea: Judge Elliot Howsie, Judge Bruce Beemer, Chelsa Wagner, Sabrina Korbel, Wrenna Watson, and Jessel Costa.
Endorsed Democrat Kevin Kraus is our nominee for County Sheriff after running a spirited campaign, and each of our candidates for County Council will be moving on to the Fall. Our newly Endorsed Candidates for Magisterial District Judge, Nick Martini, Matthew Rudzki and Jehosha Wright, were also successful.
State Representative Ed Gainey – our Committee’s choice for Mayor of the City of Pittsburgh – won a monumental victory, as the first Black candidate for Pittsburgh Mayor to be endorsed. We have known Representative Gainey since his days as Pittsburgh City Chair. His historic campaign was the embodiment of our Party’s bedrock values: empathy, equity, and inclusion.
We are deeply grateful to all the County Committee Members for their great work and wish all our Nominees well as we move together to November’s General Election.
Democratically yours,
Eileen Kelly, Chair
Honorable Pat Catena, Vice-Chair
